Unfortunate Alpha-gal Diagnosed, Seeking Venison Sources or Land to Hunt

I get that way from fish.
Was just tuna fish that would bother me as a kid but one day I was at long john silvers
Eating a fish sammich and got a really bad reaction.
Still not able to eat it but every now and then I’ll eat a very small portion of a salmon steak bjt Ill
Pre medicate so it doesent hit me too bad.
Still haven’t messed with it full bore and it has been about five years since I tested the theory.

I can’t even step for in a seafood restaurant with my chest feeling like there’s a ratchet strap tightening across it and my gums feel the same.

I don’t envy you that at all. For me, this one is the craziest allergy I’ve ever heard of. No reaction for 2-4 hours after eating, never instant. It also doesn’t happen every time, I have had a steak with no issue, and then a single bite of ground beef the next day and I’ve got hives all over and can’t breathe. The human body is insane.

Hey there,

I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to reach out to this community because I recently got diagnosed with Alpha-gal syndrome, which basically means that the
only red meat I can safely eat is venison, or I otherwise risk anaphylactic shock. I've always been a meat-eater, grill master, carnivore, and I'm determined to keep enjoying it.

So, here's the deal – I'm on the hunt (pun intended!) for safe and reliable sources of venison, or, if possible, the chance to contribute to land where I can get my hands on some deer myself. I don’t want to steal anyone’s trophy buck, honestly, a couple doe to fill my freezer is all I’m looking for. If any of you have any tips, recommendations, or info on where to find venison or access to some reliable hunting land, I'd be incredibly grateful for your help.

This diagnosis has been a big curveball for me, but I know my hunting community can help me keep enjoying steak, burgers, jerky, etc. Your insight would mean the world to me.

Thanks a bunch in advance for any advice you can share.

i will be back in GA. by NOVEMBER! i will gladly help you out with meat!
I think you can kill 11 or 12 in Georgia so not a big deal to give you a couple of deer!
what is your skill level? Do you know how to field dress? Deer processing is expensive don’t know what your funds are like.?
I will gladly pass on the limited amount of knowledge that I have!
Do you have freezer space?

The disease is caused by developing an antigen to red meat, specifically a sugar in red meat: Galactose-α-1,3-galactose. Deer/venison is the culprit. Eating venison will **** you up just as bad as a beef steak. The OP's doctor has no clue and is dispensing potentially deadly medical advice to his patients by recommending they substitute venison for beef. It's like recommending poison sumac instead of poison ivy. :pound:

Had it for three years now (according to symptoms) and diagnosed last year. Now mammal meat for me. Just fowl and big lizards.
Wife thought I had sleep apnea. Turns out it was all the steak that was trying to kill me.
Man, that is exactly what happened with me, been living with it for a year, and had random anaphylactic reactions, couldn’t figure out what was causing it and finally spent too much money on an allergy specialist.

You are a king among gentlemen! When I lived in Virginia years ago, dear was just standard dinner meat, I can hunt, field dress, process, and hold my own, just don’t have any reliable land down here, I’ve got a full size freezer in the garage ready to fill, and am willing to pay any non insane per pound prices. I am 100% not looking for handouts, and can throw in muscle or cash where needed.
