Somewhere I heard that when the first arrived in England and the English heard they were nicknamed the "Jug", they assumed it was short for "Juggernaut" (like they would do).
They were told that it was instead because it was difficult to handle, and rookie pilots would often wind up with on its nose after landing.
And that plane, sitting nose down looks like a milk jug. :becky:
 
I think that's right. But in my mind, it was the predecessor to the A-10 Warthog.....8 50s and ability to also carry rockets/missiles and bombs and could take a punch.

You can see the large weapons & fuel pod on the left. Once it was dropped over the target the aircraft could make a fast get away, since it was cleaner aerodynamically. Plus without the pod it weighed less. Pretty smart solution. :thumb:
