I worked for a local County road crew. We were always finding something on the side of the road Tools in odds-and-ends cell phones occasional wallets cash nothing really big but the things that stand out wer we were clearing up some down trees found a small pile of junk and kicked through it found eight silver one ounce rounds I didn't know much about it at the time and call the coin store they were worth about 18 bucks a piece. It happened to be four of us so we can split them all out. If we found a purse or wallet we would try to take it back to the person that came from sometimes you would just turn them into the police station. Cell phones we would try to take them back to not all of them were serviceable other things that stand out one time one of my supervisors found a full auto M16 gave it to the police and found out later it was used in a bank robbery. And one guy eased off into the woods to take a leak and found a dead body somebody who had committed suicide. I don't think that guy peed again until he was retired.Frankfurt Air Base, Germany around 1975/76. Digging footers for a building. I was in the trench with a shovel, I hit something hard and when I tossed it out of the trench in a shovel full of dirt, out came a 3" thick object about 9" in diameter with a "T" shaped protrusion on one side. The captain in charge saw it when I tossed it out and immediately called for us all to hit the ground!
Crisis averted when it was determined to be a hatch cover for some type of fuel tank.....
Remodeling an old store in Ranburne,Alabama found an RC cola thermometer inside the wall. It looked brand new, still have it from the fifties. Also found a straight side coke bottle. So I’ve been a dirt dog, involved in outside construction of one type or another most of my life. All the different job sites over the years you run into some bizarre stuff. Today was a first! I guess my top 2 are an old slave graveyard near Stonecrest Mall and the Human bone and clothing today. Needless to say the authorities are doing their duty. I wonder when we’ll find buried cash, gold or a buried civil war stash of weapons!!!! Ok, I know I’m reaching a bit. Anyone else run into bizarre finds while doing your jobs?
