Unusual finds while digging/working on job sites

I took a year off work and remodeled a house that was built in 1899 and 1900. Started with about a 2400 sq. ft. structure and ended up with about 5600 sq. ft of heated/cooled area, plus a 30' x 48' 3-car garage. When I removed the heavy trim on an 8-foot tall kitchen door (house had 12' ceilings), I found a couple of old playing cards jammed behind the frame. In the same area, as I was tearing out some of the lathing/plaster for a new doorway, I found an old cut piece of wood hanging between a couple of the true rough-cut 2 x 4's. The wood had pencil signatures of the various carpenters over the almost 2-year construction period. I dropped the kitchen ceiling from 12' down to 10', and re-hung the wood in the kitchen framing. I also cut a piece of wood, added my info, including the year of remodeling (1996), and placed it beside the original one. The current owners have no idea it is there but, at some point in the future, both pieces may be re-discovered.

Frankfurt Air Base, Germany around 1975/76. Digging footers for a building. I was in the trench with a shovel, I hit something hard and when I tossed it out of the trench in a shovel full of dirt, out came a 3" thick object about 9" in diameter with a "T" shaped protrusion on one side. The captain in charge saw it when I tossed it out and immediately called for us all to hit the ground!
Crisis averted when it was determined to be a hatch cover for some type of fuel tank.....

I found a 1904 penny in the dirt at a construction site. I kept that penny for many years, but eventually I lost it. I hope somebody else has it, and is saving it.
I'd hate to think that is just got thrown out --swept up with the dust and lint from my bedroom floor.

I worked for a local County road crew. We were always finding something on the side of the road Tools in odds-and-ends cell phones occasional wallets cash nothing really big but the things that stand out wer we were clearing up some down trees found a small pile of junk and kicked through it found eight silver one ounce rounds I didn't know much about it at the time and call the coin store they were worth about 18 bucks a piece. It happened to be four of us so we can split them all out. If we found a purse or wallet we would try to take it back to the person that came from sometimes you would just turn them into the police station. Cell phones we would try to take them back to not all of them were serviceable other things that stand out one time one of my supervisors found a full auto M16 gave it to the police and found out later it was used in a bank robbery. And one guy eased off into the woods to take a leak and found a dead body somebody who had committed suicide. I don't think that guy peed again until he was retired.

Mostly just old glass bottles. I'm sure some were worth something but I didn't keep any of them. We did have a job off of Bolton rd. many years ago when the grader was clearing the kudzu off he found a car that had a body in it. Did a school up in Ringold GA that was covered in arrowheads. Every time the grader would stir the dirt or cut another layer he would walk around looking to see what he could find. He found well over 100 full ones by the end of the job. We did a job on red stone arsenal. The site was where they used to test bombs and mustard gas. The whole time we were digging they had to have a UEBO or something like that (unexploded bomb person). I asked him what we do if we hit one with the tractor while digging. He said it didn't really matter, if it was a dud nothing would happen with as long as they been in the ground and if it wasn't a dud we were to close to it to have time to get out of the way of the blast. That was always a good feeling. Fortunately we never found one either way dud or not.

So I’ve been a dirt dog, involved in outside construction of one type or another most of my life. All the different job sites over the years you run into some bizarre stuff. Today was a first! I guess my top 2 are an old slave graveyard near Stonecrest Mall and the Human bone and clothing today. Needless to say the authorities are doing their duty. I wonder when we’ll find buried cash, gold or a buried civil war stash of weapons!!!! Ok, I know I’m reaching a bit. Anyone else run into bizarre finds while doing your jobs?
Remodeling an old store in Ranburne,Alabama found an RC cola thermometer inside the wall. It looked brand new, still have it from the fifties. Also found a straight side coke bottle.
