Anyone have USAA as their bank? Thinking about switching to that before I ship for basic in March, and dropping Bank of America (who are not very military friendly, charge you if you use your card overseas)

Would love to hear everyones thoughts and experiences! :pop2:

Recently switched and so far so good. One drawback is there isn't a brick & mortar branch if you need personal service...

Their customer service is second to none, it really is incredible how nice and helpful every one I've ever talked to there is. Do it you will not regret it.

I'm tempted to go that route. Wells Fargo bought my bank (Wachovia) and cut a lot of the services, added fees, etc.

im about to switch my bank account as well. already have car insurance ($35 a month for the second best plan), life insurance, credit card, and i use their rental car discount quite a bit. never had an issue with them. called them last month to ask if i could skip car insurance payment because im out of work and didnt have the money but will next month and they were more than happy to do it. im so thankful to of been able to be with them.

have had them for acouple of decadesor more ? house's, cars (many incl. kids) car loans by phone for internet buy. Fast claims imbursement and had a accident went to suit , they advised me before I knew anything aboutit,ABSOLUTELY GREAT you can not go wrong ..even bank from home computer. If you were in the military your in and any direct family member as well.

I switched to USAA after I got back from Iraq in '06 and have never looked back. Their customer service is outstanding and online banking makes everything easy. I have full coverage on two cars that's cheaper than liability was through Geico. Honestly, with as much as you move around in the military, not being tied down to a regional bank is nice. USAA is everywhere. Even when I was in Germany banking was easy.

I have them, and have always heard great things about them. I was very happy until I had to settle an auto insurance claim. They went and cheaped out on my diminished value. $3000 of repairs (plus they didn't use GM parts), and only @$100 of diminished value? They wouldn't cough up any more. Best I figure, they owed me @$600, and a diminished value claims adjuster costs about $600, so if I would have gone to small claims after getting a claims adjuster to figure out I was right, it would have been a wash. I was very unhappy. I have decided to stick with them for now, but if they ever pull mess like that again, I will be gone.

I was a huge cheerleader for the company (and when you call up, everyone is always friendly and helpful-when they are selling you stuff) until I filed that claim. It was a total nightmare for me. They didn't make me happy, and refused to negotiate in any way. Their claims people were rude, unfriendly, and also screwed up my rental car stuff to no end. The accident was not my fault, and they even wanted to argue and piss and moan about that-to try to trick me into taking some kind of responsibility so they could raise rates on me. Once again-they are on probation with me. I am sticking it out for now, but I had better have a good experience next time.

Overall, their rates are good, their salespeople are freindly and knowledgeable, but they are getting big-and big insurance companies are no fun. Plus-I do miss having a local agent. If this same thing had happened with my local state farm guy, he would have made it right-he has done that before, for relatives. He is a little more expensive, but I do like having a person with an office you can go and see to help the company see things your way.
