Maybe it's just the Passat with the new system they run that is expensive.

You better suck up your pride. The new Focus is really comfortable, awesome interior, and quality all around. Something you won't get with a Chevy. That is plain fact when it comes to cars bud. I would really recommend test driving a new Focus, if you go open minded, you will be impressedI drove one for a week and put a lot of miles on it. Got 42mpg highway with the sedan SEL.
Not looking for a brand new one. Mid 2000's will be fine with me.

Years ago I had 2 vw diesels. LOVED them. They were slow even with a 4speed but I'd get another tomorrow.
If I were you I would go 07 and under they have less emission stuff and you can make your own bio diesel for them.
Ah nevermind, those suck. I mean, I had an 05 and it was reliable, but it isn't anywhere what they are now lol. I personally wouldn't buy a used mid 2000's VW, their reliability was very crappy around there FYI. If you are looking for a beater, just grab whatever is the cheapest with the lowest mileage with a really good reputation for reliability.
