Well fellas, my days in Ga are numbered... I'm moving to Alaska!

My bil has worked there many times. I would visit but no way would I stay. The NFA question is very interesting. A barge trip maybe. FedEx maybe. . .Have someone here hold a package for you till you get there then let it fly. . . Really I'd call ATF and ask them.

After years of trying I finally got my big break. I'm leaving my State job for a Federal job in Anchorage Alaska. It's going to be a huge change, but this is the best career move I could make, praise God. We are scheduled to move sometime in February! I wish I could go a shopping spree cause I'm gonna miss shopping at the great shops we have in GA... But I do think I'll need a bigger carry (G43 right now).

Thanks for all the great memories, friendships and random parking lot meets! I have learned so much and gotten some real cool toys because of the community...

Now I just have to figure out how I'm gonna get all my NFA stuff up there... since I won't know where I'm living until I get up there and see some places first hand.
Been there, loved it and would love to find a way to go back and stay myself.Consider yourself a very lucky man to have the resources to actually go do it.God Speed and Enjoy.

My brother moved to Palmer (from Acworth) early this year and loves it. He said it's like moving back in time 50 years where everyone acts neighborly and respects each other. Makes me want to join him...
I love Palmer and the Valley. AK was even better 20 years ago, before the mass exodus from California, Oregon, and WA.
OP, are you shipping your vehicle or driving up the Alcan? If you can ship a car for 2k you'll be doing good. Feds might help with some of the relocation costs. Ask them. If you do not have one 4wd or better yet AWD vehicle in the family, think if it is worthile to ship. I sold one of my cars up there and shipped another down.
2wd trucks are absolutely worthless on ice and snow, even with weight in the bed. You'll get more money for them down here.

take a cruise from Seattle to AK with them in your suitcase. ATF will have answer - you can't be the first person to abandon the lower 48 septic tank
It would have to be from Bellingham to Juneau, then Juneau to Whittier and then a 40 min drive to Anchorage. Actually not a bad way to go, but Alaska Marine barges run a reduced scedule in winter., so check the schedules.

Thanks, relocation was included for this posting, so the are shipping one of our vehicles up there for us. We are planning on getting a awd family hauler once we get settled in.

I updated the Original post, but I'm gonna fly the NFA stuff up with me...

Good, it will make it easier. Once you there, you'll see all the love that AWD Subarus and Hyundais get there.
