Well, looks like I'm still allergic to mammal meat!

How did you originally find out? What symptoms led you to be tested if you don't mind sharing. I've had two tick bites this year already even after using a spray.
I was randomly breaking out in hives combined with explosive diarrhea about once every six months for a couple years.

I was eating meat daily, but only having the reaction every six months or so, plus the reaction doesn't kick in for 4 to 6 hours after you eat the meat, so I had no clue what was causing it.

Finally one night after having lasagna for dinner I went into full on anaphylactic shock. My throat swelled up, I passed out and gashed my head open and pissed all over myself. If "Miss BangBang" hadn't been there I probably would've died. She gave me some liquid Benadryl and called 911.

After I got out of the ER she told me that I WAS going to an allergist to figure out what was going on like she had been telling me I needed to do for the past two years. LOL

After talking to the allergist for about 10 minutes he told me he was 99% sure I had a meat allergy caused by a tick bite. After running all the tests it turns out he was right.

I've avoided mammal meat ever since then and never had another allergic reaction.

I was diagnosed with the alpha gal allergy in early 2014.
It's an allergy triggered by a bite from the Lone Star tick. It causes extreme allergic reactions to the alpha gal carbohydrate in mammal meat.
It can be diagnosed with a simple blood test that will give you a number. The higher the number, the more prone you'll be to the allergic reaction.
When I was diagnosed in 2014 my number was 9.5
When I was tested last week my number was 3.4
Anything over 0.35 is considered positive for the allergy.
So it looks like I'm still allergic, but my number is going down. I'll be tested again in a year and see if it continues to go down.
All you guys be sure to wear insect repellent when you're in the woods, because this allergy sucks (no pun intended) and Epi-Pens are expensive as hell!
Just1more Just1more is you get bitten by a Lone Star tick (large brown tick with a white spot on its back) DON'T eat any mammal meat for TWO WEEKS.

They're finding if you do that, it helps you avoid developing the allergy.
That Stinks!
Look at the bright side, you are one of the few people that can infiltrate the taliban!:thumb: (bunch of sorry no bacon eaters)

I just had my first blood test for the syndrome about a month ago, although I've had Alpha Gal for over 10 years now. My beef rating was over 10, and my pork rating was over 5 (lamb was over 3, but I don't consume it ever). The strange part is that I can safely eat pork and have been able to all along. It seems that red meat (and I'm including venison although I don't know if the test includes it) has been my only nemesis. My reactions are so severe that I wouldn't wish one on my worst enemy (if I had one)! The symptoms always begin around 4 hrs. after I would consume the beef, which always started as a severe stinging/itching sensation in my ear canals, and on my lower back/buttocks, which were then immediately followed by a severe outbreak of hives on several areas of my chest and lower torso/legs. As they would slowly subside I would then develop extremely severe deep chest pains (which I think is some type of internal inflammation) that almost always lead to severe vomiting which can last for hours. The process is very slow to subside and has always left me in an extremely weakened condition. I will get tested again next year, and unless my rating is less than .5 I will most likely never consume red meat again. I am thankful that I can safely eat all types of pork but I always have to ask when I eat out whether certain items contain beef, and if they can't prove it I just pass on it. I have come to love ground turkey breast over this time and use it in place of ground beef in all of our meals at home. It's a hassle to have the virus, but definitely not something to be taken lightly, could be a life and death situation if I'm not cautious...........

Somewhat off subject but how much should an allergy test cost?

I feel for you OP.
My test was done around a month ago with no insurance involved and I got the bill this week. Cost was $113 and change, not a bad price, just wish the results had been better! I was on full blown hamburger alert until I got the bad news..........
