What are the point of dreams?

I used to never remember dreams until just recently. Now 5 minutes after I'm awake, I remember having some, but I couldn't give you a single detail. I think the reason has to do with some meds I'm taking. No nightmares. I usually wish I could remember the details because I feel like I just left a comedy club.
My wife on the other hand has some dreams that have her calling out or shouting at whoever is messing with her in the dream.

It is your brain writing data from short term to long term memory storage. As the data passes through, at times you consciousness views bits and pieces of this information as it passes from one hemisphere to another. Since you are only getting fragments of data, images, feelings, conversations your subconscious mind ties to piece them together as best as possible and you end up with some weird stuff. Just a theory but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once.

They don’t always end well.
