What can y’all tell me about the 2008 Land Rover LR2

I've always heard they aren't reliable and yet I see a lot Range Rovers and Land Rovers on the road. They can't be all leased vehicles so I wonder whats the appeal of them? Also I dont understand how they were so rugged and used in Africa for safaris and races but they are garbage now.

Just got an 03 HSE 7, 115k miles on it for $4k. NOT my daily driver. Partnered with my motorcycle buddy to use as a camping/off road machine with our sons.

Coilovers already done, the number one issue.

Head gasket gone, would not pass emmissions, replaced for $1300, changed all belts and hoses. Known issue on the 4.6 V8. Number 2 issue.

Keep water in the radiator and oil in the engine, it will use a bit. You must check this weekly. Dude we bought from had his wife driving it, never checked.

Various interior pieces of trim come loose, easy fix.

The 4.6 using Disco's all had the fixed electrical that plagued the earlier versions.

Swapped the wheels for Range Rover wheels, nice lifted look, drives well, mileage sucks balls.

Things like windshield wiper blades are proprietary....

Other than the above, pretty reliable as long as you follow the above items.

It's like a lot of vehicles these days. The old ones are unstoppable and got them their reputation and the new one are being sold on the old reputation.

I think u are mistaking those for toyota land cruisers

the only range rover I would consider would be a Defender 90, they are very pricey now, but were the last real Landrover. There is a company in Florida started by 3 british ex pats that is importing old range Rovers and retro fitting and modernizing them, prices start at 200K

I have a Land Rover, and have driven it for the last 10 years. They give less trouble than GM 8cyl engines, but no one will work on a Rover. I do all my own maintenance. It is just a machine, like billions of other machines on this planet.

It is all about pattern failure, and addressing the unique weaknesses to that piece of equipment. Stay ahead of the known weak points on any piece of equipment, and it will serve you well. Treat it like a rental car, and you will have nothing but trouble.
