What did you neglect in your preps?

I got 4 guys to buy those Handheld radios thar were posted here so that make 8 radios in our group. Plus, I all ready have 10 Cobra radios from a Police auction all knew.

As long as they're setup the same and everyone's on the same frequency you're good to go!

Nobody's mentioned this but a lot of us use CPAPs. I've found that you can buy a 12 volt adapter for them, model specific and you might not get to use all the features. A freshly charged marine battery will last several days. Keep a charger handy to top off the battery when the power or gen is on. Personally I've got a 20 year old unit that works when I'm on the boat and has came in handy the last several days.

Yes especially the milk jug style water. The thin, bargain bottles of water expire as well.


Yea that will do just fine. You can also store around 60- 70 gallons in your bathtub.
In my opinion the best long term option is having chlorine bleach on hand. The rule of thumb I know is 10 drops per gallon.

bleach has no real shelf life.....Calcium Hypochlorite is the answer...it will kill superman!!

Water can go stale, but not “bad”
Of course that all goes out the window if the container itself contaminates it.

This is infinitely more helpful than people talking about pallets of ammo and trying to demonstrate small unit tactics they just learned on the internet. I appreciate the input in this thread.

For me, it's really sucked not being there at home because I am sure I could have had some positive effect. Thankfully, several people have offered to check on things for me and I had house sitters. It sucks not being able to do anything myself about the situation for now. Overall, I am thankful that we don't seem to have gotten it nearly as badly as many others in the immediate area. I'm also thankful my wife wouldn't let me plant any trees real close to the house in the event of something like this.

OK, power's been back on since @7:30 PM Sunday, we returned home yesterday afternoon from overnight stay in Jacksonville, Fla. House was cool, but a/c still ran continuously all last night. Back to normal this morning. Got the Ryobi batteries recharged, ready(?) for the next storm.

Just a reminder though everyone knows to maintain their generator but someone might not think about it. Mine calls for an oil change every 20 hours of run time. I'm keeping a run log and just changed oil yesterday.

Try using Kubota parts it will work better

Especially for electrical components!
