I had similar holes show up in my yard. You will note that there is no excess dirt piled up around the holes. Turned out to be where the building contractor had buried construction debris and it was rotting and sinking due to winter rains. To avoid digging up the mess I started tamping sand into them every year. That had to stop when I discovered he had also layed the septic drainage lines over the debris pit.
