What is the "A" in "223A" ?

My guess is that the "A" stands for Ammo. I really don't know though.
Context and source would be Awesome here...

Probably Ackley. Sometimes written out .223AI (Ackley Improved)
If on an ammunition box, it would be a SKU identifier for a particular packaging and/or a particular bullet weight/type.
Referring to PMC Bronze - it's got "223A" on the box in some places. Just curious - I'm sure it's not important. ; )
