Maybe yall can help out here. This is a first for me. I picked up this 686 in trade a while back and didnt really notice the spiderweb pattern. As I was looking it over weeks later I notice the spider web on the frame under the barrel.

Should I be concerned or is this kinda normal for a 686 no dash Square butt?

It is stainless. I would be worried about metal fatigue...But I ain't a metallurgist. would expect to see stuff like that more on a nickel gun.

Yeah and I was just about to guess it was nickel plating flaking off. The fact that it's stainless is much more concerning to me.

That's thermal cycle fatigue, take a picture of the frame cross section so I can see the fracture depth.

Tried as best as i can with the pics a tough spot to get to

You need to contact S&W about this, the depth line is definitely present

Is the top strap above the forcing cone damaged or line etched.
