Then I completely missed your point about "item value' that you mentioned twice in the OP.
Should be a short discussion then. We use lethal force when possible to protect our lives or that of others.

The point of this thread is to determine the item value that would cause someone to defend themselves against someone robbing them. Reviewing the various responses, I realize every situation is different. In addition, in general most do not care about value, only if their life or family are threatened.

I guess I don't see the relevance of the value of a material item when it comes to whether or not you are going to use deadly force against someone.
Of course I also don't understand people who swear they'd kill a human for hurting one of their pets.... and I'm very fond of my pets.

all matters on the situation. but if somehow it actually boiled down to "if you let me take your item then this all magically ends with no one hurt" then i'll let them have whatever they want, items can all be replaced and arnt worth a life in my opinion(even a ****ty theifs life). So whatever you want my wallet, you want my car, so be it I can replace them, you try to hurt me or someone I know then i'll do whatever I can to end you then and there. but the problem with this is you NEVER know if its gonna end with them just taking your item. maybe they don't want witnesses and take that path you have no clue so in that instance you must always treat it as though they are trying to do you harm.

Sure but the point is no one's life should have a price. If I'm drawing my gun or shooting it at someone, the value of an object should never cross my mind.

Money would not matter to me 1 dollar or 10,000. If somebody has a gun on me the moment that they lose concentration to focus on something else and I feel that I can get mine out to defend myself I'm taking the chance. If it's pointed square at me I won't risk it till they start firing. Even with practice it will take 2 seconds to get into a firing position, if they are already on you they can squeeze off 3 rounds in that same amount of time.

The value of the transaction has absolutely nothing to do with me pulling my weapon, ever! I pull my weapon only if my life is in immediate danger. If I can flee, I flee. If Im about to die, my gun gets pulled. If my gun gets pulled, it is only because I fear for my life. If I pull it, there is no threatening or demands. I pull it only to fire it.

For clarification, not every robbery is a life-threatening scenario. If someone is running away with my stuff, Im not going to shoot him and neither should you unless you want to spend time in jail.

I have been in a situation twice where I've been staring down the barrel of a gun and I was carrying. The first time was in a Roadrunner gas station and there were 2 robbers. I could see one but not the other. I focused on the detailed description of the one I could see and they were gone in less than a minute. without being able to see the other robber I chose not to fire unless shooting started. The other time he got the drop on me and I gave him all the cash I had. 46 dollars. I think he was more afraid than I was. As he was going away I could have shot him but he was no longer a threat and it was only 46 dollars. I also focused on his description and voice. He was caught that evening. Both times I had a weapon and made a conscious choice not to draw it. In war it's a whole different story, not the same thought process at all.
