What kind of snake is this?

Now don't go down to South America or Africa and use the heart shaped head and slender head rule. The Black Mamba has a slender head and it will lite your ass up. Too many slithering bastards over there that completely blow that rule out of the water.

OP, don't sweat it. Stuff happens. I can't stand snakes but appreciate their place in the world just like any other animal. I don't kill snakes (anymore) unless it's poisonous and around the (or a) house, which has been a very long time.

But....let me just tell you about the disposition of a cotton mouth. Yeah, not many in Georgia till you get pretty far south. Even then more common water snakes than cotton mouths. I grew up in the swamps and backwoods of the Alabama river. Cotton mouths are probably the most common snake to encounter down there if you play in the woods near water like I did. I've seen them haul butt, I've seen them hold their ground while gaping, and yes, I have seen them get aggressive and come straight for you. That is one snake that I really, really do not care for. Timber rattlers on the other hand always stayed still or slithered off. Really docile snakes unless you threaten them and get them riled up. Only saw 2 or 3 copperheads until I moved to Georgia. Have only seen one coral snake in my life which was squished on the road. Also, only seen one scarlet king snake in my life. (in the wild I mean)
