What kind of snake is this?

I found a dead snake in the bird netting I put around my blueberries last year. Btw rat snakes love eggs.

I've heard that there were a lot more snakes around this year and that I shouldn't kill them. I don't like them, but I know they serve a purpose. So what kind of snake is this trying to get on top of my duck pen?

played with one i caught in the yard two weeks ago - also got salmonella poisoning - sick both ends for 12hrs - dehydrated -headache - wash up afterwards with clorox if you handle it or touch the netting

I 2nd This big time......Apparently this is a big deal now. When we were kids we didn't worry about it but now it seems the slightest virus invades us. I blame the anti-Biotics.....

Good job on saving him! I recently posted a pic in one of these snake threads of a rat snake that was caught up in netting as well. I cut as much netting as I could on the job site and had to bring it home for my wife and myself to cut the remainder. I applied some neosporin where the netting did it's worse damage and let him go in my back yard.
