What should it cost to replace a water heater

Replaced one about a month ago and it was 2000. Good thing is they don't have to be on stands now so there is more room to get them in and plumbed.

For a professional? About a grand, maybe a little more if it has to be brought up to current code.
If you've done basic plumbing before, it's not rocket surgery... well, it might be if you mess up the gas connections bad enough. It does take tools, probably a pipe cutter and de-burrer, pipe wrench, etc. Shark bites are acceptable in GA, I've used them, no issues whatsoever (just make sure the pipe is deburred).

Typical install is $1500 including new heater and disposal of old one. Will be more for a thermal expansion tank, copper pipe, t&P line, vent work or extra gas fittings (bringing up to code).

I paid 1250.00 a month ago on a rental house. The 50-gallon water heater was cheaper than the 40 so I upgraded it.
Yeah
The last guy I help to change thought that too
Even after I told him to buy the EXACT same heater .

If you get the exact same gas heater then everything hooks right back up in the same place .
