What kind of snake is this? About 11" long.

Found it in a slightly flooded furnace room.

The following pic is a stock photo of a corn snake (http://srelherp.uga.edu/snakes/elagut.htm)

Yup. Thinking it is baby rat snake. I'd only ever seen large rat snakes, all black.

Markings confused me. Looks more a corn snake, like the stock photo I posted.

If you look at the the rat snake it is long and slender all the way to the tail. A copper head has a fat body with a shorter taper to the tail. Copperhead also has a triangular head.

Beautiful. Great snake to have around to keep the rodent population down. Nonvenomous, basically harmless to your family and pets. Unless you have pet mice or rats.

Corns and rats are very closely related. I still can't always tell them apart. The corn snake will have a checkerboard pattern on the underside. Not sure about rats.

Right on. I use to be into keeping pet snakes in my younger days. I liked the venomous ones though. Which now that I think back on it wasn't my best decision to keep as pets. ;)
