I have what i think is a 70's model express. It has been spray painted and im trying to figure out if i should refinish it or just get the modern upgrades. I like the wood look but im not sure if i can save the checkerboard pattern. I want to use the original parts or if i use new ones then ill just put the original parts in the safe.

CitriStrip...removes paint easily, won't damage wood. Keep it original if you can.

If it was an old wingmaster I would say restore it. An old express? Bubba your heart out.
I'd go for the stripper route too. Sacrifice a toothbrush on the checkering and crevices.
My sentiments as well. The old Wingmasters had a nice polished blue with a wood walnut forearm and buttstock. I really don't ever remember an "express" model in the 70's or early 80's but I really don't know or can't remember.
