What vehicle would you buy to drive 85 miles a day in Atlanta?

I’d go to the auction and buy a 80s or 80s piece of junk that is somewhat mechanically sound. Something like a crown Vic or impala. Bad paint and dented up. Has to have some body damage and looks like you don’t have a dime of insurance. Leave your good car at home.

Mazda 3 or cx5 if you want a little more room.

Timing chain instead of a timing belt so that's one less thing to worry about.

Son is currently commuting from Canton to Tech and is getting 30mpg in a '13 CX5.

Good luck in your search!
I always forget about Mazda. But I do see a lot of Mazda 3s still running the roads. Don't know when they stopped making them but I dig the Mazda 5. It looks like a small minivan .
Also on the old side but I really like the Honda Element. I don't know if they had CVTs but I would assume they're old enough not to have them. Plenty of room and plastic covered floorboards. Shifter up on the dash. You could open all the doors and hose it out at the car wash like my grandfather did with his XL model F150s.

Been wanting a P71 Crown Vic for a long time. Used to be they were everywhere you looked cheap. Not anymore .

1978 AMC Gremlin. Exotic beauty, unbridled horsepower and the ability to check your blind spots like no other car ever made. That is a very important thing in Atlanta traffic. LOL
Believe you're thinking of the Pacer. Fishbowl on wheels.
Just remember... Pacer is Recap spelled backward.

🤣The gremlins are inside.......

Bought a Prius 5 years ago off elderly relative to get them to stop driving. 2016 model. I’ve put 90,000 miles on it, have bought gas, tires, done oil changes and headlight bulbs. That’s it.
Never would have bought it myself.
Trucks only getting 3000 miles or so put on it a year now, so now that’s going to last forever. Back seats fold down you’d be amazed at how much I squeeze in.
Only thing that sucks about it is driving a Prius.

What newish vehicle would you buy if you suddenly had a new job that required an 85 mile round trip commute 3 or 4 days a week in Atl traffic? Nothing with a CVT tranny and would like to stay under $18-$20k and less than 70,000 miles on it. I was eyeballing Chevy Malibus but see GM went to a CVT tranny in 2019. I have not kept up with the latest junk that’s been pushed out the door the last 4 or 5 years so I don’t really know where to start.
When I commuted to Langford PKWY I used an old low mileage Town Car that had just enough character to get in and out worry free. I miss the car. The Honda Crosstour on here is an amazing ride; my wife’s old boss has kept one for years. I’d get it if the driveway wasn’t full.
