I make a point of shooting whatever SD ammo I have loaded about twice a year, so that cycles in newer stuff kind of automatically. I don't worry about any of the ammo I have 'expiring' though.
 
Never really been concerned about it. I did however shoot an entire magazine of black talons out of a glock 17 because I fell into a river hiking (long story). I just wasn't comfortable carrying a round for personal defense that had been completely submerged.
 
I don't keep most my ammo in an air conditioned part of the house. I buy ammo in bulk and not very often. Never had a problem; not saying it couldn't happen, but I'll believe it when I see it. Also, I never saw a temperature controlled ammo holding area site in the military.
