Where did I go wrong?

I think skills is worth more than Knowledge but the american way don't think so. You must have a school degree for the high paying jobs but those high paying jobs require experience. LOLZ

Nobody argues this; however, many places require an applicable degree just to apply. I was a high school dropout when I entered the Air Force but I knew I needed a degree in my new field or I couldn't even meet the qualifications to apply for a job. My brother has been a mechanic for over 30 years and has made as much being blue collar as I have being white collar. Getting a "soft" degree like Poli-Sci is an incredible waste of time and money unless your goal is to continue getting advanced degrees...

Alot of jobs do require college degrees but they also require experience. How would a freshly graduate get the experience if they just graduated? I had a bunch of friends that just graduated and they all complained about not beable to get jobs because there was sooo many people with experience and degree that was laid off that got the job. No one is going to hire a newb with a degree if they have no experience. I would hire someone with the degree and experience before I hire someone with only a degree. In the end, everyone gets ****ed.

Let me start this by saying that this is NOT a riff on military guys AT ALL!! BUT, I have known several ex-military folks who can come off as too aggressive, harsh, abrasive, brash, etc. to those who have not been through the training or had to learn and adopt the mindset required of a soldier. These folks definitely respect our folks in uniform, but they are sometimes intimidated or feel like they are being intimidated by people who have that mindset.

Lol....reminds me of something my wife just told me. She was reading a resume for a sales position she was hiring for and this Army Vet actually put the words "Killed Insurgents" on his resume. She couldn't believe someone would actually be that ****ing stupid to put that on a resume for a sales position! Needless to say it went right in the trash.

Don't give up devildog. Have you considered APD? They always seem to be hiring.

check out Walden security. get on with the CDC contract before they loose it and we change contractors (hopefully soon lol). seem to be hiring quite a bit lately. they love former military (mainly so they can screw you with the benefits lol, tri-care is not a accepted medical provider with them, i know its stupid). hours suck until you can get into a set schedule though.

while working there im (hopefully) starting school soon for IT security, and working on making connections with the main IT guys so when i finish i can get hired on with them. cushy federal job in my future (hopefully). and for anyone interested in the IT at the CDC, they are only interested in degrees in IT, not the certificates in different programs. the certificates they could care less about from what i was told.

they dont seem to have the CDC contract listed...but there are others around atlanta. unarmed wont pay much, armed is what you would want. but highest paid is us at the CDC contract.

Nowadays, its who you know. I never went to college but I make average. I figured if I started making average since age 18, I would make just as much as someone who went to school for 5-6 years and start making 45k to 55k a year at age 24. The school loans that you take out to go to college, isn't worth making 45k a year starting after college. If you calculate taxes and all that good stuff. Someone making 32k a year is better off than someone making 40k a year. The more you make, the more taxes you pay.

You need to do those calculations again! The more you make the more you can structure finances to reduce taxes.
