Where or how to dispose of live ammo

I bought some ammunition and rifles from a seller once and he had a bucket of mixed ammunition, 5 gallons. All different types, chamberings, etc. He said he'd been accumulating it for some time during a cleanout of a relative's storage unit and intended to pour used motor oil in the bucket to "neutralize" it. What a mess that would have made. What the heck would he have done with it then? I offered him $20 the throw it in with the stuff I was buying and he said, "Sure."

Rainy Saturday I sat down and sorted it all out and bagged it up. Sold it all except the truly collectible U.S. Military cartridges at a gunshow (as components only) for more than $500.

I’m finally getting into reloading and have gotten a good bit of used tools and parts from a gentleman from his father’s collection. Some of what he has is older live ammo and I’m trying to figure out the best way to dispose of it for him. Any suggestions on where I could take it or the proper way to dispose of it?
