Where to hunt small game in North GA?

L@@KING to hunt for free, the WMA'S, are your best bet...

Anything else you will have to join a club...

Unless you know someone that has land, you will need to get your hands dirty, willing to work long hours exchanging labor for some hunting/fishing/predator hunting if the landowner would think about it.

Now learn to drive a tractor, something about hay cutting equipment, and a baler, how to bushhog too, now you have something to barter with... Or offer to help with...

Start with trying to find to take your son/daughter where there is a farm pond, they will have some of the best fishing you can find, bream, crappie, pond cats... Besides kids love catching fish, their excitement just bubbles over, besides who doesn't love seeing a kids expressions as they catch fish?? BESIDES This also takes us back to our childhood, some of us that was a long, long, long time ago, some not so long ago.

Walk up to the owner, have your ID, in hand and show him your ID and inquire with your kid in the car, with fishing rods hanging out the window. Some are going to run you off, REMEMBER IT IS A SLOW BATTLE, go to local bait shops in the area and ask about anyone that has a great farm pond, and you are looking to take your kids fishing, if you see the local postal delivery person (they see the areas where the game/fishing are plenty, and even the land owners name).

REMEMBER, you are now running a political, race be willing to listen, do not get to telling your opinions they usually get us all in trouble when looking for what we need. Visit the LOCAL SHERIFFS OFFICE, they know the people in the area, plus normally being new in the area/community they are going to get a call there is a stranger in town asking questions. You are going to spend hours on end plowing, the ground like a farmer, you are planting seeds, you are nurturing an friendship that will be great. The real place to pick up information is the local BARBER SHOP, more people go there to get more than a HAIRCUT, information flows endlessly, The people who come in and out can give you more info than you can imagine. The local feed and seed store, they know who is buying fish food for their ponds, horses, goats, sheep, even some exotics also. The local dinner, there is usually a DQ, in the town another place to eat and gather information.

You have to think about the different businesses, services that are used and needed in rural areas. Even the septic tank, guys can be helpful as they travel all over and know where game or predators are at. You are now in a networking transition (farming transition of information). People love to laugh, keep your jokes clean, and your words non offensive TOO. Some of the farmers are going to be DEMOCRATS, stay calm and neutral...

We have a good friend now that we started with the above action, he now invites us down, to his 600+ Acre property, he and his wife, have us come down, hunt, and even stay with them. Just remember this took us about 8-10 years, however now when we go down into that town, we get hand shakes, where you been, hows the family, usually enjoy friendship and conversations. Of course, some ribs, Pork/Beef, Butt Roast, Smoked Turkey, Beef Roast, smoked Ham,
cooked on the BGE, doesn't hurt either! Some of the best, Deer, Hawg,Turkey, Predator hunting. We have helped build (2) man hunting shacks, was even given some ole barn wood, planed it and made some different things out of it and gave it to him, he was more proud of the hand made gift than anything. The best part his wife cans, homemade tomato soup, green beans, whole tomatoes, potatoes, lima beans, hot peppers, chow-chow, and the topper, pear preserves, grape jelly, blue-berry jam, apple jelly, muscodine jam, boiled giant peanuts, we have an agreement she cans, we bring back the jars, and several packages of canning lids and what a delight all year long.

The time spent has brought us some big rewards. friend, hunting privileges, fishing, predator, and most of all a real great friend. We laugh now as he recalls how our friendship began. He says, here comes another shoot'em up, come lately. He said as we walking to him he said he saw the ID in my hand and thought it was the newly elected tax commissioner, to make a call on him, was just trying to see what all he had so as to tax him. We laugh about so many hours over the years it has been so much fun, just having a real good laugh it does the body/soul good...

REMEMBER IT AIN'T WHAT YOU KNOW, BUT WHO YOU KNOW!!! RIGHT???

Besides this has taught our family, to get something, you have to give something, if you want friends you also have to be friendly, willing to give of ourselves, work, time, and a real concern for others. Besides we have some real friends who do not really want anything from us but to be ourselves.

Remember this, it will help the landowner appreciate you and your respect for their property and livestock.

If you come to a gate and it is open leave it open. If you come to gate and it is closed, CLOSE IT TOO!!!

just a few simple down to earth guidelines to consider... If it helps you are welcome, if it doesn't remember nothing is fail safe in life but trying is always a learning process which helps us all grow...
