So I've been waiting a Colt AR for a while. In the course of my research I've decided that want to do a SOCOM/SOPMOD build. Originally I was going to get a SOCOM model but they are getting hard to find. When I do find them they are around $1400. Even getting a SOCOM I would still switch out the rail system because Colt started putting Troy rails on them vs the KAC. I started thinking about getting a LE6920 since its a lot cheaper and I'm already switching a lot of parts out. When looking for a LE6920 I see now you can get a OEM model which has no rail or stock or rear sight. It's basically just the foundation and I can add what I want. This seems to be the best bet financially and the only thing I'd be missing out on is the "M4A1 Carbine" rollmark.

What are the opinions of the OEM model? I think this is something new Colt is doing but I'm assuming it's still a quality rifle, just doesn't have any furniture.

I'm sure around black friday-xmas they always bust out the Socom upper halves for sale with the KAC's for around the 7's Lazarus Lazarus or just build it how you want it'll keep in eye out now that i know your looking for it

Since I wanted a Colt rifle (upper & lower at least) and already knew I'd be upgrading a lot of parts, that's exactly what I did. Started with a basic LE6920 and then switched out all the parts to the ones I preferred. You can always use the leftover milspec parts on another build if you buy a complete rifle.. But for what you're wanting to do, I think the best deal would definitely be getting the OEM model that doesn't come with sights or furniture.

From what I understand the bare model is the same as the regular 6920 minus the items you mentioned. Quality should be the same.

Yeah, the newer LE6920s just get the plain "M4 Carbine" rollmark (no A1).

Why Colt?

Why not? LOL

I've been looking at different ARs but I just keep coming back to the Colt. Not sure if its because they might not be around much longer or because they have supplied the military with ARs for so long or what but I'm going to get a Colt for sure. Maybe my next factory one will be LMT or BCM but for right now I want a pony.
