Which One Is Better?

I wouldn't trust a $1000 1911 over a modern polymer pistol because of reliability issues, not weight.

I understand your thought process. I am a little old school I guess to because I was in the Army when the 1911 was the standard sidearm issued and, during the transition to the Beretta M9 in the mid to late 80's, so I feel the 1911, being proven for more than 100 years is a fine self defense weapon. I guess that's why they make so many different kinds. Great comment though and I do like other peoples insight or I would not have asked the question.

More Food for thought: Do you think polymer started being used for pistols as a cost saving measure? or do you think of it as a great scientific discovery that someone found for the sake of manufacturing Firearms? I understand they all have their benefits like stress fractures in steel, and expansion in polymer but, I tend to lean toward that chunk of steel in the hand. Maybe old fashioned but both modern plastic pistols and old style Steel Framed guns have their benefits. I have both and don't discriminate against either. as long as it goes Bang "EVERY TIME" I pull the trigger, to me it's a good gun.

I like big heavy guns, especially revolvers. But I've got more malfunctions in hundreds of rounds through 1911s than in thousands in glocks and m&ps. From what I've read the admittedly small chance of failures in the 1911 significantly increases when you drop down from GI sized guns. The only thing I care about in a carry gun is reliability. If you want a steel frame I'd pick sig, h&k, or cz.

I had a full size american classic II I sold and got a RIA tactical. wish I had never done it.

the AM II had more external upgrades, a MUCH smother, more crisp trigger and was more accurate than the RIA.

I guess I'm a weird one according to some of these post. I'll take any 1911 with 100 years of history over a plastic pistol any day. a good mag and in some cases the right ammo and its good to go whenever I need it.

Shouldn't matter which one you decide to get, there both made by this man in a Filipino wooden shack.

I have owned both of those and preferred the American Classic. Both functioned perfectly, but the AC was just a little better fit, finish, and trigger.

I am going to try and do some range time this week on my way home from work. I appreciate all of the input thus far. From an outward appearance, the more I look them over. I think the AC does have a slightly better Fit and Finish.

Love the Picture H4ZY. I have worked with people from the phillipines while I was in the Military. All that I have encoutered took a lot of pride in thier work. Does kinda look like a sweat shop though. I guess thats why they can keep the price so much lower than our own american made models right?

As unfortunate as it is, I kind of see Amrican Gun Manufactureres going in the same direction as the Auto Industry. Mostly due to over-pricing. The old saying, you get what you pay for is not completely true. I have had some of the most expensive peices of junk just to turn around a buy middle of the road for a better product. Heck, My Wife prefers her Toyota over the BMW 535i that she used to have and puts it on par with a Ford she had as well, as an example.

I had the Colt Defender in my hand and did not see anything that could justify the price over the AC. But, only some good old Range Time will tell the truth.

I know it's Vice, ZOMG guns are bad, but there the only one's who have a decent video about the firearms made in the Philippines.
