Whole house water filtration system recommendations? House is on city water.

Well ,It was a good sales pitch because it made a believer out of me. LOL
So far, we've had no trouble with Rainsoft. We call them out once a year for maintenance and that thing just keeps on working like it's supposed to. Makes you really notice the difference when you travel and have to put up with unfiltered water though. Lol
Clean water will spoil you... I always looked forward to returning home to my clean water.

If you don't mind me asking, what system did you buy and how much was it?

Not sure what the model was but I think it was about $7000 as best I remember. 2015-02-23 19.17.50.jpg2015-02-23 19.18.30.jpg

Chlorine residuals for public drinking water is 2 ppm. By law if you are servicing the public you have to be PWS certified and administer chlorine between .2 to 4 mg/L.

Chlorine is a safety net to kill any residual viruses, bacteria, or parasites. You have to have a certified PWS operator who services the specific system they are licensed on check the system 7 days a week. There are usually annual county and state inspections and quarterly sampling.

There’s a system in place to protect the public. I get it if you don’t want to drink it but it’s safe. The best thing to use to filter everything out is a carbon filter. Or just buy bottle water…shameless plug.
There are parasites that chlorine will not kill, and the chlorination disinfection process results in dangerous byproducts that remain in the water, a group of these are called halogens. At a minimum you absolutely want a whole house carbon filter and a solid carbon block drinking water filter if your water source is chlorinated.

Going through this research project. We are currently undergoing a "chlorine burn" It is horrible with water that I wouldnt drink anyhow, The North Port water treatment was prompted to do this in part because a guy died with a brain eating amoeba. The water causes stains in the shower and clothes are still dirty. Now with the extra chlorine we worry the clothes will bleach out... I am looking for DIY install ,filter with softener, no salt, and outdoor in Florida I'm not concerned with frost/freezing ... I'm looking at this"

I would question what media is used in each cartridge, how often you have to change the cartridges, and how much does each cartridge cost.
Also, the only proven way to soften hard water is the old method of using ion exchange resin and salt, every other method offered is a temporary fix.

My house is on city water and has high mineral content and who knows what else. My kitchen faucet was spraying 10 different directions so I uncrewed the screen at thRhe e end of the faucet. There were several white pieces in it (calcium) ?
The city of Atlanta has some of the best drinking water in the country. The white stuff could be from your water heater dip tube breaking down. If you are going to filter do it at the kitchen with a point of use filter system. 99% of water consunption comes from the kitchen to drink, cook, coffee, ice. Get a filter that removes heavy metals, cyst, gradeia, lead , and chemicals. plus a taste and oder filter. Whole house filters really don't live up to the hipe. The filters I mention came be bought on line or at the box stores. They do work!

It's okay as it leaves the treatment plant, but it ends up being pretty terrible as it works it's way through all of the old pipes, and then there are the busted mains and boil water alerts.
No, I wouldn't trust the tap water in ATL or any other city.

There are two places for treatment in the home.
Point of use: Solid carbon block or distillation.
Point of entry: Large (1cu.ft or more) back-washing carbon filter followed by a softener that uses salt.

A good point of entry system will make your point of use system more effective and it will require less maintenance.

there are block filters that remove flouride. RO systems suck as a whole house and are very expensive nstall and maintain

What’s the ratio for RO? It’s like for every gallon of drinkable you have 3 waste? Plus the waste is concentrated so it can cause scaling issues.
