who's been to Germany?

Bavaria is beautiful. Couple hour drive to Switzerland and Austria. If you really want to experience Germany, stay at a gasthaus and meet the locals. Every area has it's own local beer and bratwurst or knockwurst or bockwurst. Try them all, it's all good. Don't try to keep up with the Germans when drinking beer or schnapps. They are raised on the stuff and have a high tolerance. Weiner schnitzel isn't a weiner but karpfen is a karp. Have fun, a great country to visit.

My German head start teacher gave us the impression it was just their nature as they got older to be *****y. In German, you call a waitress "bedingung" or (in the case of young ones "freulein" (girl). I called the waitress freulein the first time now knowing the age specific rule and he laughed at me and made a rather rude comment about her achieving some heightened sexual state at having been called "girl". ;)
Good thing OP is married or we'd have to also warn him about the ages of girls in the clubs as well as what he'll see in regular commercials on TV ..... :heh:

And if you go in winter and ski, go to Garmisch. Up on the Zugspitze you can stand with one ski in Germany and one ski in Austria. So beautiful. I learned how to ski there. Or rather I learned how to fall down on sticks there. ;)

Yeah...the rules are a tad different there. LOL. I remember one of the guys in my unit was overly religious(heh, heh) and they had a femal reporter interviewing some triathlon athletes between the swim and bike. The guys were changing clothes and she was just asking them questions as they toweled off in the nude. Funny stuff and it drove this guy crazy.

Man, this thread is making me hungry for some German food; Wiener schnitzel was some good stuff, about the only thing I couldn't get into was their salads and "dressings" .... not into all that yogurt dressing

Yeah...Yeager schnitzel, or a gefult schnitzel. Ooh! A halp-henchmen mit pommes! Can you get homesick for another country?

I quickly learned that 16 was "of age" at the bar <shudders>

Also found it comical that even when it was 90+ degrees, the younger folks were dead-set on making their fashion statement in jeans. You could tell I was the American due to my shorts
