who's been to Germany?

Especially in the Middle East, but that's another thread

HA! Closest I ever got to the Middle East was two close encounters(hitch hiking both times) with Gents from there.

First time I was stationed in Ft Belvoir VA and hitched a ride with two Mujahadeen guys in country for training.

Next time I hitched a ride in Germany with a couple of Libyans. Was trying to get from Nierstein to Mainz and missed the train.

Both times the guys were so nice you would have thought they were big fans of Americans. Timing is everything I guess. LOL.

You seem to do a good bit of hitching .... dare I ask how you repaid the favor?? Wait, nevermind

LOL. Did man, back in 1984 hitching was still common enough. Especially in Europe. And whenever I've travelled abroad I've usually been made to feel like a celebrity. Hell, in Russia my wife's friend took me to the school where she worked to show me to the English class. They were so thrilled to talk with me. And the kids tried to get me to sign autographs. It was kinda freaky. The Libyans were really happy to meet an American as well.

Damn shame America has pissed away so much of that good will.
