As a goof, after posting on this thread yesterday, I said only 2X while my phone was next to me..."I want to go on an African Safari".

Im not sure but everyone i know with androids it does the same to them. That why i have an iphone
The iPhone will do it as well. Usually through some odd ball app that is downloaded. You actually give the app permission by downloading it.
Pretty much anyone from Russian hackers to the NSA to your work can use your cell to track you. They can also enable your mic if they choose and have that level of access.
The question is, will they? The answer is 'probably not'. My cell is work 'secured', and if they want they can read every text, listen to any phone calls, etc. etc., etc.
Will they? Maybe if I show up as a security problem. Or after the fact if I do something illegal. In reality none of these people have the time and resources to actually monitor everyone.
Do social media sites have this ability? Only if you are foolish enough to let them take over your device.
Anyone who installed a Facebook or Instagram or Snapchat app on their phone deserves what they get. Read their Terms of Service. They clearly state that they can do whatever they want with your 'private' information. In fact most say that it becomes 'their' information once you accept their terms by installing the app.
If you want privacy on your cell, don't install these apps, get an iPhone so you get regular security updates, and don;t let work install 'management' applications. Even then the NSA can still probably crack your phone, but the odds of that are low unless you actually are a real target.
