Why the 1911 for EDC...

Objectively the 1911 is a poor choice for EDC:
1. Limited to 7-8 rounds in a magazine vs 15-17 in a G19/G17.
2. Requires the use of a manual safety
3. With current bullet choices/improved projectile technology 45 is no more effective than 9mm

I think there's a pawnshop owner in Mableton who would disagree...

I don't know him, but he'd rather have less rounds available and more manual actions to train/perform for the same ballistic effect?

I'm strictly talking data points here that I've learned. I think 1911s are awesome and the only reason I don't own one is that I haven't found a cheap one with an ambi-safety in 9mm yet lol. I've handled a WWII 1911 owned by a family member and it was a thing of beauty...wish it was mine. But I carry a Glock 19.

All I can tell you is the perp was DRT and the owner used a 1911.

Better choices is very subjective and different according to the individual who intends to carry.

Beat me to it. 7 - 9 rounds is enough for me personally and I happen to like the 1911 safety. Its off without even thinking about it - just second nature. And the latest and greatest ammo technology applies to the .45 as well as the 9mm round. Physics do matter.
