I feel like the SKS is the grey area of the collector's rifle.
Although a alternative to drilling would be getting a composite stock with a rail or a kit.
My rule of thumb has been, if your grandpa remembers firing it, then its probably worth keeping as is LOL

You can always put a railed receiver cover on it. Easy to undo if you change your mind later, cheap and quite sturdy.
