Windows Users Beware of Quicktime and Flash

I saw this about a month ago and have been seeing more frequent articles about this. If you are running Windows boxes and do not have an absolute need of Apple QuickTime or Adobe Flash Player, it may be wise to think about uninstalling them.

I think it has more to do with Adobe Flash being known as hackers' number one target for a long time now. QuickTime I dunno, but if Apple is no longer supporting updates for Windows, and there are known vulnerabilities with it, why keep it?

What is the best program to run instead of flash, as my kids use a lot of kids sites that say I need flash to view the videos. Thanks

There are a lot of websites using Flash but it will be going away in favor of HTML5. For now, users of Chrome and Firefox will usually have the latest Flash plug-in already installed that will handle web sites needing Flash, and as far as I know that's the best you can do. I don't know about Internet Explorer since I have not used it for several years.

But I did go into my Windows add/remove programs and remove the Adobe Flash application installed in Windows itself since I don't have any installed applications that require it.
