Actually, these are scraps from a board gluing business (they don't fool with anything less than 36"). These may have knots or other imperfections.

Normally my buddy gets 1.5" x 1" boards (that workbench top looks to be either 1.5" or 2"), but lately his supplier has been bringing 1"X1"x8'. He's hoping to get back to the 1.5"X1" because these are a lot more work to glue.

Canes are an idea, I do have some longer than 36" (depends where & what kind of imperfection it has).
