I think you all misunderstand the purpose of the NFA. It isn't to generate revenue nor is it to reduce crime.

It's sole purpose is to make owning NFA weapons difficult and time consuming so most people will just avoid them.


They have no incentive to streamline the process, quite the opposite really .

I'm pretty sure the NFA was about keeping hundreds or thousands of tax collectors in their jobs during the Depression and after Prohibition. Sort of a big government "jobs program."

Also Southern handgun laws were to keep blacks from owning guns (Jim Crow). Northern handgun laws were to keep Italians and Irish from owning guns (Sullivan Act)
