Young Detroit man's college future ended before it started....

Id be for stricter punishment but only for serious crimes

Jailing people for petty stuff like low level drug use or tax evasion is a waste IMO
One of the previous posts enumerated the stepping stones from petty offender to serious felon.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to have a first time offender participate in the chain gang experience to solidify their resolve to remain in the "aint never gonna do that **** again" catagory.

We continue to remove the consequences for the unacceptable behaivior, and then wonder why our criminals have such a high rate of recidivism.

The Time don't match the Crime.

Some folks become better criminals after prison though

Recidivism occurs because the individual is prone to ot regardless of punishment IMO, bevause they dont plan on getting caught

"Altogether, she has been targeted five times in the last 11 years. And this was not the first time she has shot an intruder either. In June of 2013, she shot a teen who kicked in her back door. The teen later showed up at an area hospital and he and an accomplice were promptly put in police custody."

So she has shot 40% of them. Not too shabby.

20 hours of community service vs. 24 hours in the stocks? Which one do you think is going to leave a lasting impression to avoid the criminal behavior? Clearly our level of recidivism indicates our kinder gentler thinking has failed to provide the proper incentive to avoid re-experiencing the criminal justice system.

It wasn't cruel and unusual when our founding fathers established this country.

Note the rotten garbage provides aromatic experience enhancements from the community. The people in the community contributed to the experience by expressing their displeasure at the individuals choice of behavior.

I'm thinking, free workforce.
