Good.
Which is part of my reason behind being such a fan of plastics. I can't see putting a gun that requires almost every part to be hand fit through abuse. Glocks and m&P's are great because I don't mind beating the snot out of it.

Good.
Please don't screw up that Kimber for future owners...fitting a safety on a 1911 isn't like swapping a back plate on a Glock...you have to be able to feel your way through it. It's not a "Put Tab A into Slot B" kind of thing.
If you want a 1911 to "learn on" pick up a RIA GI model.

To each their own. I love 1911's, just not something I want to carry. Like using a Mercedes as a farm truck.I've carried a 1911 for going on a decade....it has thousands of rounds through it (not hundreds of thousands, NWS ) and I would challenge you to distinguish it as anything less than 80%. Just because you carry something doesn't mean you "beat the snot out of it."

Agreed. but Glocks/m&P's work very well for me. I love 1911's, but more as a safe/range gun. That's not the argument that I am making...I am simply pointing out that you continually talk about "beating the snot out of" or abusing your carry piece. I'm just saying that carrying need not be a torture test.
