How could they go for only Felony Murder? Felony murder is when someone dies while you're committing another crime. I.e. The teller has a heart attack while you're robbing the bank. Where's the other crime he's committing at the same time to justify the felony murder charge?

They are stating that the felony in question was child abuse.
But where's the child abuse? Following him? Get his ass kicked by him?
I think at this point they're just trying to make it look like they did everything in their power to convict him. No way will he be found guilty of child abuse. This is strictly to appease the low information potential rioters.
Unless the judge sustains the defense's objection the Jury instructions to look like this:
The jury will not know the sentencing implications for any of the choices. West just seemed visibly shocked when he was told that this was not a case where the lesser charges carry reduced sentence. if convicted on ANY one of those charges that Zimmerman would get Life because a firearm was used in a Felony.
- 2nd Degree Murder (Main Offense)
- Manslaughter (Lesser Included Charge)
- 3rd Degree Felony murder (Lesser Included Charge)
- Not Guilty

Here is what crystal ball is telling me... GZ will be found guilty of manslaughter. He will appeal based on biased judge and disallowed evidence. Case will be retried. He will be exonerated. Notoriety will die down by then and he will not have to move.
