Anyhow, this is the next best thing. I use part of my hydraulic jack handle and put it over the ratchet. Gives me a ton of leverage and I haven’t encountered a nut that this combo hasn’t loosened. You just have to aply steady and even pressure and keep it perpendicular.
I don’t like the HBI tool too much because your angle of attack Hass to be almost perfect to get that barrel nut off the first time. I prefer the MI 1” barrel socket.
yeah you can’t put the slide in the pusher with the optic on it. It will damage it which is why it has to come off. I cant understand how a gun shop would not have been able to do the job properly.
I’ve seen relief cuts in grips for thumb safeties, but not sure for extended slide release. Probably the 1911 gods punishing you for putting Colt grips on a SA pistol.
Assuming its not pinned, you need to put the barrel in a vice (not upper, you’ll snap it) and turn the flash hider with a wrench plus large breaker bar. I slip the hollow handle of my floor jack over the wrench on stubborn bolts. Haven’t met a bolt I can’t loosen with that combo.
I use Ballistol on my P01 (and everything else ) which also has the DW duty finish and no problems with discoloration. Looks as clean as ever. Love the smell of ballistol!
With flip up sights it doesn’t really matter much since they are backup to your primary RDS and are down most of the time. With non flip sights it becomes a question of whether you want more or less obstruction of your RDS. Personally, I like absolute co-witness with flipup sights for consistent...
I thought about doing that to an old gen3 just to see if could too, but in the end I decided the 1/2” bbl length just wasn’t significant enough and I’d rather just carry a 26. Would’ve been fun though! That looks pretty amazing.
