Meh...
I had a 270 in 1989.
Wounded 2 deer I never found.
Got a 3006 the next year and never looked back.
They normally drop where they stand.
And those few that didn't, didn't go far.
I Hunt powerlines and fence lines, mostly.
Minimum shot is between 100-250 yds.
Skeleton Stocked Ruger M77 I bought the year my daughter was born.

My first bolt action rifle was a .270 Win, would’ve been a great rifle if it hadn’t been in a lightweight synthetic stock. I’ve shot 12 ga, .300 Win Mag and even a Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 that didn’t kick as hard as that rifle, that one was downright painful to shoot. After I sighted it in I sold it or traded it I don’t remember but I took it in a trade so it wasn’t really something I was looking to get to start with, I just had that old “trading bug” affliction real bad back then.

Stupid enough, I never got along with a 3006. The first one I had I think had a short length of pull and it was brutal. And I have a 458 Win Mag. Along with other African game rifles. I love a 308 though

31 thousands of an inch was not the problem, it was bullet design and shot placement.
