12 ball gang mold, antique as near as I can tell. Anyone seen anything like this?

Found local about 6 months ago. It appears to throw a .52" ball, a dozen at a time. Heavy, well made with an iron indexing pin that fits the other half near the handle. No sprue cutter, more like a Colt pattern. Anyone ever see another dozen ball mold?

I've only ever seen 6-ers and 'buck and ball' molds, that's a new one for me

I googled "cannon ball fishing weights" and some similar stuff came up on Etsy

You would need really good gloves to use that mould -
Back in the 50's-60's dixie gun works sold similar moulds --
they also sold some made from hair straightener tong blanks --

I considered fishing weights as that'd be most likely, but most all molds I see have a tapered (to the ball) stem for tying line or a loop in the top for threading line. I suppose the top would be open enough to lay a twisted wire loop in with a large enough curl to prevent the wire from sliding all the way inside before the pour.

I guess it'll remain a mystery.

I doubt it's for fishing weights.

Really? I can't find one brass gang mold for fishing weights on etsy.

That's a possibility but LOL you'd better have a hella piece of rubber to sling a 1/2" lead ball. It likely weighs somewhere around 220 grains given the density. I guess a Shepard's sling could throw it. I know the Roman army used lead balls in their slingers corps. Lethal.
