$150.00 Home Defense?

Why not cannibalize the turkey gun? It just sits around for 10.5 months out of the year. Is there something inherently weak about the structure of the barrel? I read something about "overbored" barrels not being good for 00 buckshot. But my barrel is not overbored, whatever that means. Plus, my turkey barrel is only 21 inches long. That's only a smidge longer than the more desirable 18.5" barrels that HD shotguns come with.

I guess I'm just always looking for an excuse to buy another one :D

Yesterday I bought this Remington 870 Express 12 gauge for $100 from a guy at work...

I'm going to cut the barrel to 18 1/2 and load it up for duty...

I have $149 in this one as it sits. NEF Pardner Pump.

Got over $150 in this double barrel, but I like it.

I'm kind of surprised no one has really brought up pistol caliber carbines. A high point carbine could be had for 150-200 used. It is so ugly just showing it to an intruder should scare them off. I prefer a pistol caliber carbne for home defense over a shotgun anyway. 30+ 147 grain hollow points will hold off an army and dramatically reduce the chances of hitting my dogs or destroying the house in the process of defending it.

I run a 20 inch on my 870 when it is not doing duty in the duck blind with a 28 inch on it. Off course I didn't get to hunt hardly any last season.............

I think you would be fine running your turkey gun for HD as long as you can run it with screw in chokes without some Xtra Super Dooper Full Turkey Choke screwed in it. I wouldn't go any tighter than an IC.

I put the improved choke on it. I could even get a ported choke for about $30. Not gonna do it just yet. I wanna see how it feels with the pistol grip stock and forend I have ordered first.
