It’s better than 22lr. You’re better off with 380acp or 32acp. The ammo is cheaper and there are modern offerings. 25acp is basically reliable 22lr. Ballistically they are very similar.

.25acp still viable for pocket carry?

The 35 grain are running 900 ish
The 60 grain 830-850
All of em fired out of a 1908 Colt vest pocket made in 1912.
Here are some of the 35 grain gold dots after being fired into gel.
I’m not suggesting you carry a 25 for self defense.
But, if a 25 was all a person had, I’d say carry it.
In my experience, no one has wanted to be shot with anything, from .22 lr to 20 ga.

This pains me to say it, but I would highly recommend not depending on any semi-rimmed cartridge out of a semi-auto for self-defense. I say that because my P32 in 32ACP is one of my favorite little pocket pistols.
I finally encountered the dreaded rim lock with a magazine of 32ACP while at the range. It was even ball 73g ammo and I've been loading my P32 magazines for YEARS without issue. First round went off fine, second was a FTF. After inspecting the magazine, I realized the round was locked behind the one below it. I had to take a flat-head screw driver and wedge it below the top round to get it out.
That finally made me retire the P32 outside of range toy and carry my Bodyguard 2.0 for any pocket pistol needs.
I finally encountered the dreaded rim lock with a magazine of 32ACP while at the range. It was even ball 73g ammo and I've been loading my P32 magazines for YEARS without issue. First round went off fine, second was a FTF. After inspecting the magazine, I realized the round was locked behind the one below it. That's the same type of gun that I just got.

Of course, a 32's better than a 25 and a 380s better than a 32 and a 9 mm better than a 380 and a 45 is better than a 9 mm. Blah blah blah.
One of the last homicides I investigated was with a .25acp, single shot to the chest, the suspect/victim ran/staggered down the steps to the next apartment and died in front of the door. From the time he was shot to the time he lost consciousness. Maybe thirty seconds and then maybe thirty seconds after that he was dead.
But that's just one case and each case is different. Then again I've investigated a shooting where the victim was shot three times with a .40 and sat on the curb and waited for the ambulance and talked to me the whole time.
So going back to my original question, if you have a .25 do you carry it in any fashion for any reason?

When I was a teen, I'd go to the local lover's lane on Saturday night, shout "that's my wife, you s-o-b" and do a mag dump with my little Colt .25.
Usually cleared out every car in about 30 seconds.
It's a neat gun from a historical perspective but as others have said there are much better choices for concealed carry. Hard to go wrong with a Ruger LCP. You see them for less than $300 sometimes and .380 is a much better round. I've been carrying mine mine discreetly under my business casual clothes at work for over 10 years.
