300 blackout & 300 whisper?????

Can you shoot whisper out of an AR in 300 blackout?

I've shot whisper in blackout, drawing a blank on the opposite though.

Blackout was designed to handle whisper as well. Whisper is not designed to handle blackout.

^^This. You can shoot 300 whisper out of a blackout, but not blackout out of a whisper. Kind of like it is OK to shoot 223 out of a 556, but not the other way around.

I'm not questioning your info, just curious as to where did you find your info?

I believe Hornady and S&W use the names interchangeably?

I was under the impression it's more like the .308 and 7.62 Nato.

Basically the same round with only minor difference in shoulder dimension spec.

The chamber is slightly different between the two . . . I guess enough to leave JD without a case?

The blackout is loaded hotter than the whisper stuff so between that and the chamber differences it isn't recommended to shoot 300 blackout in a whisper specific chamber.

If I remember correctly the biggest difference is in the case neck length. The BO is longer and it could get jammed in a tightly cut whisper chamber and cause increased pressure spikes.

It looks to be about like the 7.62X51 and the .308 to me. One's SAAMI and the other's Euro spec'ed.

Looks like the Whisper spec case length is actually longer than the Blackout. 1.400" Whisper and 1.368" for the BO.

Hornady has the Whisper 110 @ near 2400 fps from a 16" barrel. That seems pretty high on the velocity scale for either.
