.357SIG: What’s the point of this cartridge?

Well it's first hand events that I've seen. That's why I feel the way I do. The 45 is king. But the person has a better chance of survival with a 40 vs 45. The 10 seems to be as good, probably better than 45. I've never owned a 10, so I don't have first hand experience with it. If it were more main stream, I probably would have one
I finally have a 1911 in 10mm. Still ain't shot a single round through it. But all my reading and research claims it's pretty much like 357 Magnum in an auto pistol round. I traded an ATI 1911 Commander for it. At the time I WAS worried about ammo cost but turns out 10mm is about the same price as 45ACP most of the time.
Y'all forgive me for basing my pistol preferences on old Miami Vice episodes.

You're the one paying the bills, nothin to forgive.....

Fad or not, 40 is better than 9 or 45. 357 sig is essentially a low end hi capacity 357 mag in a 9mm frame. I really don't understand what people want.

Want a pistol more powerful than a 9mm but only sacrificing 2 rounds? Want a pistol more powerful than 45 while doubling capacity and reducing grip size?

Are you recoil sensitive? Probably should stop comparing +P+ to 40 and 357.

9 is easier to make. Takes less material.
If a company can convince the population into 1 caliber it makes profits and production much easier. With the 2011 and popularity of 9mm the new generation will phase out 45.
You'll have one choice and like it. If theres ever a run on 9mm... for something like a war perhaps. GL unless you reload. Even then you may find brass and bullets difficult to come by.

Personal I dont see this as totally a lack of consumer interest but tactical manipulation of the industry to drop support and funnel sheep into the pen.

First off, the Bren Ten was ahead of it's time and some company needs to not only start making it again but the magazines too!

Also, 10mm is better then all calibers, including 45 AARP and 9 mini mouse.

Third, A Bren Ten is my Dream gun. I would be hard pressed to pass one up. I miss the one I did have, long, long ago.

Fourth, IDC what caliber y'all using, just hit what you're aiming at.

I was expecting a bit more of a coherent rebuttal with maybe a fact or two countering my perspective. I guess that was my fault for expecting something more than a meme create by a 12 year old. My bad.

If you wanted that, you should have just opened a Guns and Ammo issue from 1995, or 2005.

I don't want to grow up, I'm a toys are us kid. Duh.

It is your bad.

But I'll refresh some arguments that have been debated since 1990.

40 wasn't wide enough to do 45 AARP blood loss damage or fast enough to catch up to 9 Mini mouse.

Simple fact is, pistol caliber gun fights SUCK. You need a lot rounds, in the right place to win and 9mm does that better then 40. It's simple.

9mm has more round capacity, quicker follow up shots, and is cheaper, so hopefully more training.

With modern defense ammo, the 9mm does the job the best.

And the 357SIG being a 357MAG, You can go look back and read the 35 pages to see why that's a fallacy.

Ammo cost is definitely a factor. I have spoken to cops with three different agencies from Mercer University Campus PD to Bibb Co to Port Authority Police down at the Brunswick Port. They all used to carry Glocks in 40. But between 2013 and 2018 they all went back to G17 pistols. And they ALL made the switch due to ammo cost.
I ain't studied the ballistics but 40 may be superior to 9mm fired out of most duty size pistols. And recoil was never an issue to ME or a lot of people. But as I'm sure you know....ammo cost is ALWAYS an issue.

Agree. Cost definitely swayed police. Probably swayed several citizens.
Capacity Probably swayed some police also.

Was 40 selling so bad to cause gun manufacturers to totally abandon it?
Somehow 10mm made a comeback and it cant be for all the whiners saying 40 is snappy and it wears your gun out faster.
The two 10s I have are beasts to carry and I only consider them if Im going into to woods.

A good portion of 10mm factory loads aren't loaded much more than 40 based on lots of YT testers research. Only when you get into specialty loadings and reloads do you see decent 10mm numbers.

The 9 vs 45 debate rages on. Somehow 45 keeps hanging around even though capacity is king. Ive.not read a gun magazine in decades. Got tired of shill ads. Eventually went totally YT and Eventually got tired of shill ads. There are very few channels that I respect. Paul Harrel was one I considered good and useful unbiased information. There are others. Based on their extensive tests in different platforms through different media under different conditions, ive formed my opinion. If those hundreds of hours of effort these people put into these tests resulted in misleading information then ive been mislead
