I got a super red hawk from a guy the other day on a trade,it's a 9 1/2" barrel, but I have been thinking of having it cut down to the size of a Alaskan? Are there any cons to this? I like that the long super red hawk has scope mounts on it,might be cool to put a red dot on it for fun plinking. I don't do any pistol hunting but I have always wanted a Alaskan and sense I only had about $300 tied up in the gun I traded I got this ruger at a steal, just wanted to get some suggestions before I done anything on a whim, and don't want to ruin a good gun

You did steal that thing!
I'd go for it if its what you're really wanting. If done correctly and professionally it will probably be worth a lot more than the 9.5" model it started out life as just for its uniqueness.
Post pics if ya get it done!

I am just worried that if and when I get the trade bug. It will diminish the value of the gun,but you can't get an Alaskan with scope mounts. I think it would be cool to put my eotech on it
