Hello to all,
A friend of mine that I served with in USMC and I have become really interested in hunting hogs here in Georgia and SC. I've been really looking for a nice bolt action that could put a hog down in one shot. I would like to keep it less than $500 for a used rifle with a scope and I'm looking for either a .270, .30-06, 7mm Mag, or .300 mag. I'm leaning toward the .270 or .30-06, more so towards the .270. Researched and have heard some really great things about that round. And really looking for a Savage 110 or a Marlin. Thoughts???

.308. I would suggest an AR 10 but that is out of the budget you said so any good Savage or Remington will suit you fine. Most people I know that hog hunt prefer semi autos "Just in case" but a well placed shot with a .308 will get it done.

I hunt them regularly with 62gr and 75gr .223/5.56 in my AR and my buddy uses his 300Blk AR and has taken hundreds of hawgs. We're actually going this weekend. So to stay within budget maybe a Mini 14? Mini 30?

I appreciate all the advice but .308 is getting really difficult to come by which is why I went the other calibers. Plus I've heard .270 maintains a much flatter course and will out perform a .30-06 beyond 300 meters. Is this not true?

Semper Fi, Devil Dog. Marine myself. i shoot a 270 wsm with heavy grain and a remington 30-06. They are both kick butt. Cant wait to get my hands on a nice DPMS in a 308. Then i will feel at home. good luck

Was going to bring my AK-47 as a back up. I know I can legally hunt hogs with it. Have you hunted with a 7.62x39?
