A New First For Me: I Want Your Item, But I'm Suppose To Hold It Indefinitely?

i sometimes ask if folks will hold a gun for me until i can meet, usually due to only being available on the weekends if i have to drive. i always also say that if they get an offer to meet sooner then i wont care. most of the time it works out, but only because the max i would ask someone to hold something would be like 2 or 3 days

The first long gun that I shipped out of state took about 5 weeks from the time the buyer committed until I shipped out the rifle.

We were both patient, and all went smoothly.

I've done close to 100 deals here on the ODT, met some wonderful folks, and I can honestly say that 99% of the deals I've made here went very smooth. But, I've had a new situation pop up this week, and I don't know what to do about it.

I posted an item for sale, and I have a guy say that he wants it. Great! But, he wants me to bring it to him in north Georgia. Well, I tell him no, that my ad clearly states the areas I'm willing to meet in. He says that he wants the item, but he's not sure when he'll be able to come to my area and meet.

Huh?

I'm as easy going a guy as you'll find. I'm more than willing to work around a persons work schedule or if they have to wait to get paid/gather funds. But holding an item until a person one day ends up in your area?

I'm looking to make a deal, but I can't hold the item forever.

Frustrating.

Tell him you hope he gets it but you will continue to list it till it's sold...

I guess paying for something and holding it for somebody is more common than I thought. I sold a guy a gun, he paid by Paypal and came and got it about 2 weeks later. I had never done that before and it honestly had my spidey senses going off but the guy had good feedback so I went through with it. Everything went fine. That was probably a couple of years ago.

As far as just holding something for somebody for an undisclosed amount of time with no money... Nope.

Shipping makes deals across the state so much easier.

Yes indeed, but usually it's the seller who goes all frigid at the idea of shipping. As a buyer, if we are over 100 miles apart, I'd rather pay for shipping than make the drive. Even if we meet half way.

That said, the couple of times I wanted someone to hold something until I knew I would be going that way, I offered to send the money. No one ever took me up on it.

I held an item for almost two weeks before the buyer and I could meet. I wouldn't have done that if he had not paid for it immediately through PP. We completed the deal as soon as we could and both of us were happy with it. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with that gentleman again.
