A newly-developed belt fed AR15/M16 upper has been fielded

It's been developed and in the process of being beta tested. There is a long thread on it in the Belt Fed Semi Autos section of Arfcom.
Looks like there will soon be an alternative to the Shrike/Flightlite upper. The new one is said to be more affordable.
I think the price of 16s could take off.
